Iron: they are not all the same!

Iron: they are not all the same!
Iron is a macro-element, that is one of the minerals present in the body in higher quantities, a fundamental component of hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body, and of myoglobin, the protein that supplies oxygen to the muscles.
"Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional disorders in the world which in developing countries affects children and pregnant women to a greater extent, and at least 30-40% of the adult population in industrialized countries. Iron deficiency can also be found in many clinical conditions, mainly in chronic diseases, especially if characterized by an inflammatory state, such as chronic intestinal inflammatory syndromes, congestive heart failure and chronic kidney disease (CKD). "

This is the beginning of the article recently published in "Cardionefro Magazine" (Year 6 - n. 1 - January / April 2022), the official organ of the Italian Association of CardioNephrology (AICN) ETS entitled: "ANEMIA: AN INSIDIOUS COMPLICANCE IN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE ", edited by Dr. Vincenzo Barbera (UOC Nephrology and Dialysis - Parodi Delfino Hospital, Colleferro), to the link below:

The article highlights the importance of using products exceeding the main limit of oral therapy representing at first the low tolerability of iron-based preparations, which mainly manifests itself with gastrointestinal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

The super-dispersion technology of micronized iron pyrophosphate in an emulsifying matrix is a solution that was proved effective in gradually releasing small particles of iron during intestinal transit, in order to promote iron uptake and at the same time limit gastrointestinal effects.
In this way the bioavailability of the iron and the tolerability of the products are increased, in favor of greater efficacy and therapeutic adherence by the anemic patient.
This is why it is important to make the iron-based preparation most suitable for their needs available to the doctor and patient, to facilitate adherence to the product intake which delays or cancels the need to resort to other treatments.
